OK, you heard about Showit and that I love it A LOT (!), but what exactly is Showit?
What can you do with it? What is so special about it? And how easy is it for someone that is not so tech savvy to use it?
You’ll discover it all in this blog!
Showit is a drag-and-drop, no-code website builder that gives you complete creative freedom and control over your website. Literally everything is customisable.
Showit started out as a website builder primarily focused on the photography industry but the platform has evolved and is very well suited for any kind of business now. Many solopreneurs and small businesses like event planners, interior designers, florists, coaches, bloggers, restaurants, and many other types of industries use Showit now.
As I mentioned before, Showit is a drag-and-drop website builder, that allows you to easily change everything. All colours and fonts are changed and you can drag and drop all elements like shapes, images, videos and texts in any way you like. The design opportunities are endless and unlike other drag-and-drop website builders like Wix, Squarespace and Elementor in WordPress, you are not stuck with blocks that restrict your creative freedom.
Also the user interface is very intuitive, much more than any other of those builders I have used in the past. There is still the option to use code if you like, for instance to embed additional services like an appointment scheduler or questionnaire, but the options to do this are very easy to navigate with the help of Showit helpdocs.
For me one of the most important and valuable features! Nowadays the majority of website visitors come in on a mobile device, so the mobile version of your website should look good on and be responsive to any device. I love how the mobile version of the website design can be edited completely independently from the desktop version. This way it’s always well optimized.
Showit works with WordPress for blogging. This means that if you have a blog or want to create a blog, your WordPress account will be linked to your Showit website.
So how does that work exactly? Well, think of your Showit website being the “stylish overlay” of your blog. Meaning: you create a design for the layout of your blog pages just like anything else on your website, and Showit uses placeholder-tags to automatically load your post title, blog content, categories, etc… everytime you post a new blogpost. So Showit can be seen as your actual website and WordPress is the database of all your blog posts.
This means that you will still login to WordPress and create your posts there, and then your posts will be automatically updated with your new blog layout that you created in Showit, without having to think about it ever again.
And if you had a WordPress blog before, Showit will transfer all your old blogs to your new design, So you don’t lose anything!
If you want to know more about how the link between Showit and WordPress works, you can read all about it here.
All my clients, including myself, don’t just want a beautiful website, we also want a website that is easily found by our ideal clients, right? So SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is very important. And Showit has great SEO tools to help your website rank high in search engines like Google. Showit made it very easy to add your SEO data on each page and image. This way you easily add your tags, set up your page titles, meta descriptions and alt texts.
Another important thing for your site to rank high in Google is how fast a website loads. Especially with lots of images, this can be a problem for many sites. One of the reasons why Showit websites are so popular with photographers, is that Showit sites load tremendously fast, even if they contain a lot of images.
It is even better for your ranking if you optimise your images properly. To find out more about how to optimise your images for SEO, read this blog post!
Many of my clients are not very tech savvy and can get a little overwhelmed or stressed about the technical part of websites. I totally understand! And although I usually am able to plough myself through all sorts of technical issues if I need to solve anything, I really do not like dealing with these too much. So I was very happy to find out that with Showit, there is a lot less to worry about, because each Showit plan, comes with hosting of your website. This means that all your website files, including your images, PDF’s and (WordPress) Blog associated media, are hosted on their servers. And this automatically brings me to reason number 6…
They offer a huge library of videos and help docs to answer any question you have about the platform.
Plus if you run into any technical problems, you can easily contact the support team via the live chat in the app.
The only thing to keep in mind is that they are based in the U.S., this means that when you are located in Europe, you will not get a quick response in the morning, but during their working hours you will get an answer in no time!
And if your website accidentally got offline or you have another urgent problem. All users get free Emergency Support, so if you use that service, even in Europe you will be helped quickly.
Showit offers different categories of hosting plans for a monthly fee. In comparison to WordPress for example, Showit is a little more expensive, but to me the ease and joy of working with Showit in comparison to working with WordPress, is worth the investment for sure! Plus, your website hosting is included. Below you can see the different options:
So, if you don’t plan to have a blog, the cheapest option is the best choice for you. And if you would like to have a blog, I recommend the Basic blog option of $24/month. With every plan comes a free trial for the first 14 days. You can start your trial here.
